Student mobility programmes organised by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie

The aim of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) is to develop solidarity and exchange between universities whose official language of instruction is French.

AUF mobility programmes are mainly designed for lower income and less prestigious institutions- especially those of the Southern Hemisphere. This program can arrange exchanges between one another or with universities from the North. However, grants cannot be awarded for mobility between two institutions from the North.

Additionally, women students are given priority over men in the case of two applications of equal merit.

Research training scholarships:

- Intended for those students with a postgraduate degree (DEA or equivalent). These scholarships cover the period necessary to prepare the thesis (3 years maximum). Priority is given to co-supervised or co-directed theses.

The scholarships awarded include:

- transport costs
- a monthly payment calculated according to the cost of living in the host region
- a lump sum paid at the beginning of the mobility stay to cover settling in costs
- cover for health insurance, accident cover or repatriation costs which are obligatory in the host country.
- in the case of scholarships awarded for research training, an assignment from one of the thesis directors in the partner institution following in response to a letter of motivation addressed to the AUF.

The three scholarships are awarded following a call for applications. For 2004-2005, the date limit for handing in scholarship applications was 17 January 2004.
The following website provides further information about the regulations regarding these scholarships and other mobility grants offered by the AUF:
